From June 2014 we are working in partnership with Age UK Ealing on a project called Restore Plus. This is funded by a Public Health fund aimed at reducing isolation. The project will help older people who have lost their confidence and mobility after being discharged from hospital and who find that their circumstances have changed. The aim will be to provide intensive support for between 6-8 weeks and for those who are then unable to get out and about, they will then be referred for the VLS befriending service.
After 10 years of fantastic service, we have sadly said goodbye to Priscah. We know staff, clients and volunteers will miss her and all the wonderful work that she has done during her time with the VLS. Daksha has also left the VLS and we thank them both for all their dedication and wish them well in their new positions.
Jill Shaw and Maggie Faley both joined the team in September and November respectively and we hope over the coming months clients and volunteers will have the opportunity to meet them. Both come with a wealth of experience and we know that the VLS will continue to flourish in their capable hands.
We’re moving; from Monday 26 August the VLS will be based in new premises. Our new contact details will be The Volunteer Link Scheme, Boundary House, Boston Road, Ealing, London W7 2QE. The new phone number will be 020 8434 3635. All email addresses remain the same.
We heard today that the VLS has been awarded Approved Provider Standard from the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation. This is the gold standard for befriending organisations; the MBF say “The APS logo is a national quality standard mark which is recognised by funders and commissioners as evidence of your safe and competent practice.” Congratulations to all volunteers, staff and Management Committee members on this fantastic achievement!
